MUSIC
The 1950s introduced rock and roll to popular culture, idolising stars like Elvis Presley. This stemmed from black musical genres such as rhythm and blues and gospel mixed with country and western.
STYLE
There was a clear gender divide between the men's more casual look and the women's formal style. The women prioritised elegance and matched accessories with brands like Balenciaga and Dior.
LIFESTYLE
The second world war was still affecting families with goods still being rationed. Many families had very little spare money for treats for their children such as holidays.
